This Brooklyn paper wants to be the Brooklyn Paper!
A loyal reader and former intern spotted a stack of Red Hook rags sitting inside one of this newspaper’s signature blue boxes in Carroll Gardens on Tuesday, as he went to grab a copy of the borough’s favorite broadsheet.
And it wasn’t the first time our former Brooklyn Cyclones reporter spotted the squatting in action, he claimed.
“Finally caught a pic of this parasitism,” said Ben Verde, a senior at SUNY Purchase whose family lives in Carroll Gardens.
Several copies of the Red Hook Star-Revue’s November edition, featuring Godzilla — the Japanese monster, not the legendary turtle roaming Green-Wood Cemetery — on the cover mysteriously made their way inside the box sometime between the delivery of last week’s Brooklyn Paper and this week’s print edition, out on Friday.
But the Star-Revue’s publisher — who said he leaves stacks of the paper around Red Hook and Carroll Gardens, and has more recently been bringing it up the East River to Dumbo and Brooklyn Heights — swore he was not the culprit, claiming anyone who reads the free publication could have stuck it in the box.
“Anybody can pick up a stack of papers and put it wherever they want,” said George Fiala. “I never put any papers in your news box. I have no idea how it happened, I’m not responsible what our readers do with our papers.”
