It’s time to party — Madison Square Boys and Girls Club officially re-opened their aquatics facility at the Thomas S. Murphy Clubhouse in Flatbush. With financial support of former Borough President Marty Markowitz and Councilman Mathieu Eugene (D-Flatbush), a full-scale renovation of the swimming pool and adjoining facilities was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Re-do’s included; Complete reconfiguration of the four-lane, 20 foot-by-60-foot pool tank to accommodate current code requirements and maximize the programming space for clubhouse members.
Replacement of all tile and plaster finishes throughout the pool and general natatorium to include a 100-foot-long mosaic tile mural that features images of clubhouse members taken by clubhouse members. Also: full replacement of the filtration piping system and underground plumbing; installation of state-of-the art mechanical and dehumidification system and for the natatorium; installation of new, energy-efficient LED lighting throughout; upgraded accommodations to improve handicap accessibility of the pool including a fully integrated ramp into the space and new chair lift; and renovation of viewing areas to better accommodate members and their families.
