For this race, electric lights were more important than electrolytes.
The Electric Run at Aviator Sports and Events Center on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 was a five-kilometer race with flashing lights, music, and a rocking after party. But even though runners 21 years old and up were able to soothe sore muscles with beer, one runner said that the event — especially compared to other electronic music festivals — was definitely an all-ages affair.
“It is not like a typical EDC or Electric Zoo — this is more family-oriented,” said Olivia Bassett, who lives in Queens and attended the event with her friend.
Bassett said the best part of the event was dressing up in elaborate electric-inspired attire.
“We were able to wear sparkles and we had glow sticks and a little bit of face paint,” she said.
One attendee said runners weren’t focusing on breaking their personal records. She said because the race was about having fun, runners’ finishing times were nothing to sweat.
“I don’t consider it something that someone would try to get their PR,” said Michelle Labella, who said she doesn’t consider herself a runner. “It was more of a fun event to do.”
