Cyclones 4
Tri-City 2
Sept. 4 at Tri-City
Juan Gamboa scored two runs, including his second homer of the season to break the five game losing streak and finish the 2013 season with a winning record, keeping the Cyclones streak of above-.500 seasons alive.
The 38–37 final record gives the Cyclones their 13th straight season with a winning record, something only four other professional baseball franchises have accomplished.
The game looked to be heading toward another loss when the Valley Cats opened up the first two innings with one run each to take the 2–0 lead, but the tide quickly turned when Gamboa hit a solo shot to right field in the third to cut into the lead.
The Clones went on to score three runs in the fifth to make the final margin. Tri-City pitcher started his first and only inning of play by walking Matt “Bright Eyes” Oberste, Gamboa and Eris Peguero back-to-back-to-back. Colton Plaia then got hit by a pitch to send Oberste home and Ismael Tijerina hit an RBI single to let Gamboa score his second run of the day. Peguero later came home on a wild pitch by substitute pitcher Krishawn Holley.
Even though the streak of consecutive winning seasons continued, the Clones missed the playoffs, finishing three games behind the Aberdeen IronBirds, and failed to win a championship.
