PIGEON FORGE – PART 2

I promised to tell you more about the great time we had in the super−sensational, All−American town of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I’m sure you know all about Dollywood and the Smokey Mountains theatres featuring revues, toe tappin’, hand clappin’ country music, Chinese acrobats, celebrity impersonators, magicians and more. There are also loads of family activities in and around the Great Smokey Mountains National Park – swimming, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, rafting, and for the gals who don’t particularly care to join in …drum roll please … outlet shopping in the nationally known Belz and Tangier outlet malls. And then there’s the Zorb.

The WHAT Gershbein?

The Zorb. Unless you’ve seen it in New Zealand, there’s a pretty good chance that you never heard of the Zorb. The Zorb is a totally revolutionary, brand new concept in an adventure ride for children of all ages….and I do mean of all ages. I couldn’t help but notice a pair of Golden Agers whooping it up. Picture an eleven foot high inflatable, transparent sphere encompassing another sphere in which you ride. Two feet of air between the two spheres protect you and your friends as you enjoy a wild ride, rolling down hills at high speed. The Zydro is the same with water inside. I watched groups of twos and threes exiting this rolling water slide giggling, laughing, hootin’ and hollerin’ from this thrilling experience.

Pigeon Forge is also home of an Elvis Museum that boasts the world’s largest private collection of Elvis memorabilia. There’s also a car museum with vehicles that grandpa drove way back when. A Dinosaur Museum with one of the world’s largest collections of over fifty life−size dinosaurs has the little guys mesmerized. And close by is an exciting activity for spelunkers (look it up).

This is the third week in a row that I’ve been talking about Pigeon Forge. Before I close I must tell you about one of the most enjoyable, fun−filled dinner shows Carol and I have ever experienced. The place – Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede. One of the three action packed extravaganzas in the world is right there near the center of town. The show is a modern day Wild West Revue featuring about three dozen humans along with an arena filled with horses, cows, pigs, longhorns and ostriches. There are races of every kind, dancing, sing−along’s, country, northern, southern, and patriotic songs, and a terrific four course dinner with lots and lots of excellent food. The servers are constantly on the run as they bring each guest a whole rotisserie chicken, a large slab of barbecued pork, corn on the cob, baked potato, and more, along with unlimited soft drinks, coffee and tea. All this is followed by a doggie bag. Warning – remember to wash your hands thoroughly because this fantastic, delicious dinner is served without utensils. Yes. You read it correctly. No forks, no spoons, no knives. I am StanGershbein@Bellsouth.net telling you that this entertaining eating experience in Pigeon Forge gave us a whole new meaning to “finger lickin’ good.”
