Tenor sax man Billy Harper and his quintet
(Leron Thomas on trumpet, Francesca Tanksley on piano, Clarence
Seay on bass and Newman Taylor Baker on drums) will perform April
5 and April 6 at the Up Over Jazz Cafe, 351 Flatbush Ave. at
Seventh Avenue in Park Slope.
One of the original members of the Lee Morgan quintet, this European
sensation – originally from Texas – will certainly put on a great
show. And you may learn something, too, according to Up Over
Jazz Cafe owner Bob Myers.
"Billy Harper is an educator at the New School’s jazz studies
department," said Myers. "He tells a story when he
plays music, gives you the historical significance of what [the
quintet’s] playing." Performance times are 9 pm, 11 pm and
12:30 am. Cover charge is $20. For more information, call (718)
