Join the Marine Park community band!

Attention, musical Marine Parkers — the Marine Park Community Band is looking for you!

Neighborhood resident and retired music teacher Maestro J. Leo de Leo is seeking new folk to play popular American music by George Gershwin, classical tunes by the likes of Mozart and show tunes by Broadway superstar Stephen Sondheim at neighborhood events.

“I’ve conducted community bands in Long Island and I’ve always loved the spirit,” said the maestro, who is looking for anyone over the age of 18 who can play the flute, clarinet, saxophone and trumpet.

Those with a flair for the trombone, tuba, French horn, or percussion instruments are welcome to try-out, too.

Auditions aren’t necessary with community bands, which are popping up all over the country, said Deleo, and experience is a plus, but not a requirement. In fact, Deleo wants to create a carefree environment in Brooklyn’s largest park — Marine Park — where music enthusiasts come together once a week to play their favorite songs and, above all, have fun.

“There’s no pressure, it’s a place to relax and have a great time,” promised de Leo, adding, “I’m looking forward to performing concerts in the park in the summer.”

Rehearsals will be held in the new community center, which is being built inside the park at Fillmore Avenue and Madison Place.
