Kick off to West Indian American day carnival

Empire Fulton State Park was alive with Caribbean culture recently as members of the West-Indian American Day Carnival Association held their first annual New York West Indian Carnival Kick-Off Reception.

During the program, guests feasted on light refreshments while they were entertained with West Indian dancers dressed in full, multi-colored regalia.

Organizers said that there will be plenty of more colorful costumes and pageantry when the West-Indian American Day Parade kicks off on September 1 at 11 a.m.

The special reception was designed to honor organizers of the parade – a beloved tradition that thrills thousands each year.
