The John Cougar Mellencamps are back where they belong — in the Brooklyn Kickball finals.

But to secure a record third-consecutive championship they will have to defeat a Never Scared team that doesn’t scare easily.

Both teams finished with 7-0 records in their respective playoff divisions on Saturday night, rendering tie-breakers unnecessary.

The Mellencamps swept through the division with decisive victories over Brooklyn United and People’s Court, who lost to the Mellencamps, 9–3.

Never Scared took down the Mathletes before corralling last year’s finalists, the Pony Boys, with a convincing 9–2 victory.

The purple players are heavy underdogs to take home the Chuck D Trophy, despite having a veteran-laden team that advanced to the finals in 2009.

But Mellencamp players say the result this year will be the same — another victory that “Hurts So Good.”

“Not to take anything away from People’s Court or any other team, but the JCM’s are simply the best team in the league and should be able to walk away with another championship rather easily,” said Mellencamp rookie Michael “The Office” Scott.
