They put the fun in Family Fun Day!

Dozens of youngsters came out for the second-annual Family Fun Day in Canarsie Park on Aug. 17, hosted by state Sen. Roxanne Persaud (D–Canarsie). Back to school season is just around the corner but the day was filled with games, rock climbing, and face painting, and was a great way to send off summer, said East New Yorker Joshua Figueroa, who brought his 9-year-old daughter Sierra.

“It’s just a good thing they do for the kids,” he said.

Figueroa and his daughter played a rousing game of checkers at the Seaview Avenue park, which she won, although maybe not entirely fairly — but it was spending time together that made the day special, he said.

“The quality time we spent together, playing checkers, her cheating of course,” said Figueroa.

And the day was not only a win for kids, but it was informative — parents got some important health information, including CPR training, dental screenings and insurance info, said Canarsie resident Uturbina Ryan, who went with her daughter and niece.

“I collected information about health and insurance,” she said.
