Forget the celebrities on “Dancing With the Stars,” the real stars are the students of PS 207’s Early Childhood Center.

The young students took to the dance floor to show off all they had learned throughout the year as part of their annaul Memory Day celebration on Wednesday, thrilling parents and teachers alike.

“It was a joyous celebration,” said Teresa Kepertis, assistant principal of the school on Flatlands Avenue. “Students paired up and showed off some of the dances they learned, like the cha-cha, Greek step, and waltz. It was a really nice way to end the year.”

But it wasn’t just their skills on the dance floor that had everyone raving.

Music teacher Vella Cherkas, who has been teaching the pre-K through first grade center for the past 12 years, taught the kids various instruments, including the maracas and shakers.

“Parents were very, very happy,” said Cherkas. “They were yelling, screaming, and smiling for their children. They were so excited to see them perform the Greek step, the other dances — and, of course, the instruments. Everyone had a really good time, and the kids really enjoyed themselves.”

The students, who worked alongside their teachers during the year to prepare for the showcase, also had fun watching a slideshow of their events from the year — including Field Day, a performance of Winnie the Pooh, their Chinese New Year celebration, and gardening in the school’s patch.
