Cops are hunting a man wanted for allegedly cold-cocking a 33-year-old woman in Midwood on Dec. 21, while she was out walking with her 7-year-old daughter, cops said.
The victim was on E. 12th Street near Elm Avenue at 2:45 pm, when the attacker punched her in the back of her head, causing her to collapse, before he fled on foot.
Police have been circulating a description of the victim’s attacker, along with an artist’s rendering, in a hope that the public will help find him.
The woman’s attacker is described as a black man, wearing his hair in short braids, who was last seen in a black wool cap, green jacket, and dark-colored jeans, cops said.
The Police Department described the incident as an assault, but Councilman-elect Chaim Deutsch called suspect’s conduct a clear-cut example of the violent “knockout” game — in which attackers try to knock random victims unconscious with a single blow.
“I consider it a knockout attack,” said Deutsch. “I call a surprise assault from any individual whose intent is to knock the other person down a knockout attack.”
Anyone who supplies the NYPD with information that leads to the conviction of someone guilty of a knockout attack may be eligible for a number of cash rewards.
Deutsch, along with Councilman David Greenfield and public advocate-elect Letitia James, are offering a reward of $1,000, while the Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition is offering $5,500 for information that leads to a conviction.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers’ website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577.
