Last-place Cyclones lose again

Aberdeen 6
Cyclones 5

July 5 at Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s Jared Breen scored the winning run in the 11th inning when Cyclones’ first baseman Alex Sanchez made a throwing error and the last-place Clones lost to the IronBirds for the fifth-straight time.

But not without a fight.

Aberdeen took a 5–1 lead by the fifth, and held the lead until an eight-inning Cyclone rally tied things up.

Outfielder Jorge Rivero and catcher Colton “45” Plaia singled to start the inning, before third-baseman Anthony Chavez hit a three-run homer over the left field wall. Outfielder Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi then doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli.

But the Clones couldn’t muster any more offense, as Mazzilli was thrown out at home to end the top of the 11. In the bottom half of the inning, Breen doubled, after which Kris Richards hit a sacrifice fly, and Sanchez misfired on the throw home to allow Breen to get the winning run.

The Clones, who are a measly 6–12 on the season, will look to avoid a sweep in tonight’s game at 7:05 pm in Aberdeen. Let’s hope the boys can win one tonight.
