Hudson Valley 3
Cyclones 2
July 19 at Hudson Valley
Brooklyn’s offensive woes continued on Tuesday night – despite the best efforts of outfielder Gene Cone – as the Cyclones dropped a 3–2 game at Hudson Valley in the series finale.
The Cyclones got on the board in the third, jumping out to an early lead. Cone singled with one out, moved to second on a Michael Paez walk, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Colby Woodmansee’s sacrifice fly.
The Renegades evened the score in the bottom of the frame. Jose Rojas led off with a single over Brooklyn starter Gabriel Llanes. Landon Gray grounded into a force out and then moved to second on a groundout. With two outs, Ryan Boldt singled to center, scoring Gray to knot the game at one all.
Hudson Valley starter Eduard Rosillo lasted four innings, giving up only one run on one hit.
In the fifth, Cone greeted J.D. Busfield Jr. with a triple to center. Cone scored when Paez followed with a sacrifice fly.
Once again, Hudson Valley didn’t trail for long. Miles Mastrobuoni began the fifth with a bunt single. Joe Olson reached on an error by Nick Sergakis as the Renegades had runners on the corners with nobody out. Bill Pujols bunted for a single to load the bases and Boldt seized the opportunity, driving in two runs with a double to right field.
Boldt drove in all three runs for the Renegades. Llanes gave up three runs in six innings as the righty fell to 1–4 on the season. Gary Cornish pitched two shutout innings in relief.
The Cyclones put only two runners on base in the final four innings as the Renegades slammed the door.
Busfield Jr. gave up one run in three innings of relief and picked up the win. Brandon Lawson pitched two shutout innings for the save.
The 14–18 Cyclones get a rare day off on Wednesday before returning to MCU Park for Irish Jersey night on Thursday.
