Late-night mugging horrifies this Slope man

Three gun-toting thugs mugged a man on Fourth Avenue on June 22, getting away with his laptop and fancy phone, cops said.

The victim, a Sixth Avenue man, told police he was walking between Sackett and Union streets at around 10 pm when the three hooligans surrounded him and grabbed him by the neck.

One pulled a black handgun, placed it against the victim’s head and said, “Don’t turn around.”

One of his accomplices then swiped the man’s backpack — which contained a computer, a Blackberry device and his passport — and the trio fled in a gray cargo van.

Ear-ringed

A woman browsing jewelry at a Fifth Avenue boutique pulled the old “try it on” trick and walked off with diamond earrings valued at close to $4,000 on June 24.

Cops say that the shopper entered the store, which is at 12th Street, at around 11 am and asked to try on the square earrings. Seconds later, she was gone — the earrings still on her.

The storeowner said the jewels were worth $3,750.

Ripped off

A thief — possibly an ex-employee — stole $1,700 from a popular Fifth Avenue restaurant after it closed on June 23.

The owner of the joint, which is at Degraw Street, told police that he saw the former worker at the scene of the crime hours before closing time.

And, sure enough, when workers arrived at the eatery the next morning, the cash was gone. Police did not report any sign of forced entry.

Bad worker

A former employee at a popular ice cream and ices chain took advantage of co-worker’s unconsciousness to steal $10,000 from the store’s safe on June 11.

According to police, the owner of the Uncle Louie G shop on Union Street near the corner of Fifth Avenue was distracted as he dealt with the sudden collapse of his nephew at around 5:40 pm. That’s when the soda jerk — who embodied both senses of the term — slipped into the downstairs safe and removed the cash.

The owner of the store had recently fired the employee, complaining that she wanted “to leave early every day.” Now he, apparently, has another reason for not hiring her back.

Picking around

At least three quick-fingered thugs picked their way to ill-gotten wealth last week. Here’s a roundup:

• A woman’s cellphone was stolen out of her purse while she was at a playground on Douglass Street between Third and Fourth avenues at around 5 pm on June 21. She initially thought she had merely misplaced the phone, but later, when she called her number, a man answered and said, “This is Black’s phone now.”

• A woman told cops that a thief snatched her wallet as she headed for the stairs at the Grand Army Plaza 2-train station at around 5:30 pm on June 28. The wallet — minus the $150 it contained — was later found a few blocks away.

• A man inside a candy store on Park Place near Flatbush Avenue felt himself “jostled” at around 2:30 am — and later discovered that his wallet was gone. It is unclear if the perp managed to use the cards before the victim canceled them.

Wheely bad

At least three wheeled vehicles were swiped last week — one car, one high-end motorcycle and one fancy bike, cops said. Here’s the roundup:

• A woman’s Chrysler Sebring was swiped from a spot on Prospect Park West. She told cops that she’d parked the car near Ninth Street at 1:30 pm on June 22, but it was gone when she went back to it at 7:45 am on June 24.

• A fancy Ducati motorcycle, valued at $5,000, was taken from in front of a Dean Street house sometime between June 18 and June 23. The owner said he had chained the chopper to the fence at the house, which is between Fourth and Fifth avenues.

• A thief broke into a building on Berkeley Place between Seventh and Eighth avenues sometime after 8 pm on June 23 and got away with a man’s fancy bike.

The victim noticed the crime at 4 am the next day.
