Library hosts santa lucia festivities

The Bay Ridge Library morphed into a Nordic-style folk hall when the Scandinavian East Coast Museum hosted its annual Santa Lucia Festival, complete with a delightful costumed cavalcade and yummy cookies.

Mom, dad and then kids enjoyed special attractions and amusements at the local archive of the Brooklyn Public Library, Ridge Boulevard and 73rd Street, including a procession by students in the after-school program at Christ Church Bay Ridge, 7301 Ridge Boulevard, plus arts and crafts apprising budding bakers how to make, among other crowd-pleasers, traditional cone-shaped biscuits called krumkaker.

The Lucia pageant officially kicks off the Christmas season throughout Sweden, where on the longest winter night of the year – December 13 – the eldest daughter dons a flowing white gown and a crown of candles, and awakens her parents with Christmas carols, coffee and lussekattor, or hot saffron buns.
