LICH to hold diabetes wkshop

Diabetes is on the rise in the US, largely due to lifestyle choices. Long Island College Hospital (LICH) of Brooklyn, in conjunction with the Dodge YMCA at 225 Atlantic Avenue (between Court Street and Boerum Place), is hosting a community education workshop series about diabetes.

The sessions – February 10, 17 & 24 from 1-2:30 p.m. – will include use of medication, foot care, new technology, counting carbs, glucose monitoring, type “A” diabetes vs. type “B” and more.

Come learn about diabetes management and self-management. This weekly three session workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of the diabetes and instruction in the self-management tasks, which will allow people with diabetes to be in the best position to work with their HealthCare provider to help assure optimum diabetes management.

Registration is required, but the sessions are free to the community. Hosted by Maura O’Malley ANP, BC-ADM, CDE, Diabetes Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Educator at Long Island College Hospital.

Community members may participate in any or all the workshops. For information and registration, call Sara Reyes at 212-912-2421 or email sreyes@ymcanyc.org.
