Life’s cabaret for students

The Upper School of Visitation Academy presented its Annual Spring Concert, featuring performances by the school’s Cabaret Troupe, Brass Band and eighth grade production of “Willy Wonka Jr.,” held at Our Lady of Angels, Fourth Avenue and 74th Street.

In conjunction with Theatrics and Music Theatre International, Visitation Academy produced “Willy Wonka Jr.” with additional music by Leslie Bricusse and was conceived by Tim McDonald, responsible for creating a brand new market for students to enjoy theatre through the Broadway and Disney Jr. collections.

This was one of the first performances of this work by a school anywhere in the U.S, and the ensemble cast was accompanied by members of the ISO Symphonic Band under the direction of Brian Worsdale.

The Theater Program at Visitation contributes to the school curriculum by offering a distinctive way of learning, where seeing, feeling and creating are combined in a powerful form of visual and oral communication.

Students have the advantage of gaining theatre literacy through the study of plays as well as through their own performances.
