Local politicians and national environmental groups honored Poly Prep on Tuesday, praising the prestigious Dyker Heights school for giving its Park Slope branch a green make-over.
The eco-friendly First Street building, which opened for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students in September, boasts a handful of environmentally friendly features like large windows in every classroom that save energy by providing light, bathroom fixtures that limit water flow, and floors made from rapidly renewable bamboo instead of wood.
“I’ve realized that children will do what you do, not what you say. That’s why what you’re doing here is so important,” said Councilman David Yassky (D–Park Slope), who joined Borough President Markowitz in presenting the school with a plaque. “I know that the Lower School students here today will grow up to be environmental participants, and probably environmental leaders.”
