LIU keeper honored for work in classroom

Long Island University senior goalkeeper Amy Johnson was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I University Division second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced.

Johnson has earned a 3.94 cumulative grade point average while majoring in sports sciences. Since transferring to LIU before last season, she has become a valuable member of the squad. She has settled in at goalkeeper this season by playing in 13 contests and helping the Blackbirds rank as one of the best defenses in the Northeast Conference. She currently ranks second in the league in goals-against-average and was named the Brine/NEC Defensive Player of the Week on August 25.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.

LIU is currently 13-3-1 overall and 7-0-0 in the conference. The Blackbirds will host Mount St. Mary’s Friday at LIU Field.
