Live carols

“The Wise Women” by Conrad Susa, originally supposed to be presented December 14 by Union Church Concerts, is postponed until the 2009-2010 season.

In its place, Union Church Concerts presents Susa’s “Carols and Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest,” also scored for choir and soloists with harp, guitar, and marimba.

The performance will also be December 14, 4 p.m. at the Union Church of Bay Ridge (PCUSA), 80th Street and Ridge Boulevard.

Billed as “a musical piñata party for the Baby Jesus,” the performance features songs in Spanish, Catalan, and English, and is a Spanish-Diaspora response to Britten’s beloved English cycle for choir with harp.

Craig Phillips’s Advent chorale “Rorate Caeli” and classics from the Renaissance/Baroque Christmas repertoire round out the program:

Tickets $12 at the door, children and seniors are $8. For more, call 718-745-0438, email unionchurch@earthlink.net or visit www.ucbr.org.
