Q train riders listen up: your commute is about to undergo a major shake-up courtesy of the MTA.
This month marks the beginning of the MTA’s massive seven station rehab along the Q and B subway lines.
Beginning the weekend of October 4, all northbound Q trains along the Brighton Line will begin bypassing both the Avenue U and Neck Road subway stations while repair work begins there.
Northbound Q trains will then continue to bypass both stations on subsequent weekends on October 11 thru 13, October 18 thru 30 and October 25 through 27.
Weekday service along the southbound Q line will begin to be affected on November 3 and continue through November 21 when service bypasses Avenue U and Neck Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Riders will be forced off the train entirely and directed onto specially designated shuttle buses at Kings Highway on the weekend of December 5 thru 8.
From 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, shuttle buses will replace train service from Kings Highway to Stillwell Avenue in both directions.
According to the MTA, the buses will run every two to three minutes during heavy daytime periods and about every 10 minutes during late-night hours.
Beginning on December 8 until September 2009, the southbound platforms at both the Avenue U and Neck Road subway stations will be shut down and shuttle buses at Kings Highway will begin taking passengers to Avenue U and Gerritsen Avenue from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Work on the northbound side of the Brighton Line is expected to begin at the conclusion of repairs to the southbound side in September 2009, and will take approximately eight and a half months to complete.
Community Board 15 alerted neighborhood residents about the upcoming disruptions at their last general meeting held at Kingsborough Community College.
