Police yesterday arrested and charged a 42-year-old man for fatally stabbing a 52-year-old woman inside a Bay Ridge Avenue apartment on Aug. 9, authorities said.
Emergency responders discovered the victim, AnnMarie Vardy, with stab wounds to her torso inside the apartment between Eighth and Ninth avenues at about 7 am, and pronounced her dead at the scene, according to police.
The man, who was charged with murder, lives at the Bay Ridge Avenue apartment with two other family members who were there at the time of the attack — but they were not hurt, said Detective Michael DeBonis.
Vardy was believed to have been renting a room in the apartment and living there with her alleged killer’s family, but it doesn’t appear that she was dating or married to him, said DeBonis.
“Unclear on what their relationship is. They were known to each other. We believe that the victim may have been renting a room from one of the other female occupants, but still unclear at this moment, still getting to the bottom of it,” he said. “Not believed to be husband and wife.”
Police recovered a knife at the scene and the investigation is ongoing, officials said.
