Mini Mets have big bats: Cyclones offense unstoppable in Aberdeen

Cyclones 10
Aberdeen Ironbirds 5

June 24 at Ripken Stadium

An explosive offense gave the Cyclones the edge for the second night in a row, securing a Brooklyn victory in the rubber match of a three-game road series against the Aberdeen Ironbirds.

Designated hitter Alexander Sanchez did his job well, going four for five with two RBIs in the romp. Catcher Nelfi Zapata tallied three runs including a solo shot in the seventh, while center fielder and top Mets prospect Brandon Nimmo scored twice on three walks. First baseman Cole Frenzel, second baseman Richie Rodriguez, and left fielder Jonathan Clark each contributed a run.

An Aberdeen rally in the seventh — powered by a grand slam from first baseman Doug Bream — fell short, as closer John Mincone shut down the Junior Orioles offense in the last two innings of the game, giving up just one hit and picking up the save.

The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 4498497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] tonight at 7 pm as they face the Hudson Valley Renegades.
