August 21 at Lowell

Mental miscues cost the Cyclones a win as Brooklyn made four errors in a 9–6 loss at Lowell on Sunday.

Starting pitcher Gabriel Llanes didn’t help his own cause, giving up nine runs in four innings of work.

Brooklyn took a first inning lead as two walks and an error loaded the bases for Blake Tiberi. Tiberi came through with a two-run single. The lead, however, was short lived.

Matt McLean led off the Lowell first with a single off Llanes. Victor Acosta followed with a walk and Tyler Hill’s double to left scored both runners to tie the game.

Bobby Dalbec’s grounder to third allowed Hill to score as Michael Paez committed a throwing error.

Tucker Tubbs led off the second with a homer off Llanes and Hill drilled a two-out, two-run homer of his own to give Lowell a 6–2 lead.

Brooklyn used a two-out rally in the third to cut into the lead. Tiberi walked, Brandon Brosher singled and Darryl Knight’s double scored both runners. Hengelbert Rojas followed with a double to score Knight and cut the lead to 6–5.

Tiberi’s fielding error kept the inning alive in the bottom of the third and Tubbs made the Cyclones pay with his second homer of the night. Llanes retired the first two batters in the fourth, but Hill doubled and scored on Ryan Scott’s single to put Lowell up 9–5.

In four innings of work, Llanes allowed nine runs – five of which were earned – on seven hits, walked one and struck out one. The righty dropped to 4–6 with a 3.41 earned run average.

Gabriel Feliz, Adam Atkins, and Taylor Henry combined to pitch four shut out innings for the Cyclones.

Spinners starter Darwinzon Hernandez gave up five runs in two-and-two-thirds innings, but the bullpen silenced the Brooklyn bats. Pat Goetze pitched three-and-one-third innings of shutout ball to pick up the win. Dioscar Romero recorded the final nine outs, giving up a lone run in the ninth.

The 31–30 Cyclones finish their series in Lowell on Monday at 7:05 pm.
