Thief thwarted
A mother and daughter helped thwart the attempted burglary of a Fifth Avenue candy store on Aug. 7.
The 47-year-old mother and her 15-year-old daughter, who live near the business, told cops they both heard a loud smash at around 4 am.
When they looked outside, they saw the thief smash the glass front door and enter the store, which is at the corner of Warren Street.
The pair of good Samaritans called the police, who arrived and arrested the suspect, who was hiding in the locked bathroom with his ill-gotten gains: $32 and 15 chocolate bars.
Jewel thief
Somone nabbed a $4,000 necklace from an Eighth Avenue home on July 25.
The 33-year-old owner of the home, which is at the corner of First Street, noticed her jewelry box was missing from her bedroom closet at around 7:30 pm.
Police officers checked the home’s doors and windows for signs of a break-in, but found nothing that pointed to forced entry, cops said.
Backseat job
Two suspects robbed a 32-year-old man as he stood next to his car on Aug. 5.
The victim told cops that he had pulled over his car on Ninth Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, at around 2:30 am, and was searching for something in the back seat when the two thugs came up behind him and pushed him to the ground.
The suspects then grabbed the man’s wallet as well as a digital camera, cellphone and iPod from the vehicle before running away.
Butler bash
A thief broke into a car parked at a Butler Street hotel on Aug. 5.
The 24-year-old victim told cops that she had parked her rental car in the back parking lot of the hotel, which is between Third Avenue and Nevins Street, at around 5 pm.
When she returned several hours later, she noticed the car’s rear window had been smashed and $10,000 worth of digital cameras and accessories gone.
The good news? The hotel’s security camera caught the whole thing on tape.
Gym rat
Someone stole cash from a Flatbush Avenue gym on Aug. 7.
One of the gym’s employees, a 24-year-old woman, got to work at around 6 am and noticed that one of the cash drawers was $75 short.
There were no broken doors or windows at the building, which is at the corner of Sterling Place, police said.
Bus driven
A woman waiting for a bus on Union Street had her purse snatched on Aug. 8.
The woman, 43, told cops that she was standing at the corner of Seventh Avenue at around 11 am. After waiting about 45 minutes for the bus (which is a lot), she glanced down at her tote bag and noticed that her purse was missing. The sly thief got away with $260, as well as various debit and credit cards.
Thief nabbed
Cops arrested a man who tried to grab a woman’s purse off the floor of a St. Johns Place nightclub on Aug. 10.
The 26-year-old victim said she was at the bar, which is at the corner of Fifth Avenue, at around 2:30 am when she saw the suspect take her purse and head for the exit.
The woman immediately called the police from her cellphone, and proceeded to follow the thief outside, keeping an eye on him until the cops arrived to make the arrest.
