McCarren muggings
Crooks attempted to mug at least two victims in McCarren Park on Sept. 7. Here are the grisly details:
• A thug shoved a woman to the ground and stole her purse at around 2 am, confronting his victim in the park, which runs along Bedford Avenue from North 12th to Lorimer streets.
He threw her to the ground and warned, “If you don’t stop struggling I’m really gonna hurt you.”
The mugger got her purse and dumped its contents onto the ground, eventually fleeing with a cellphone, IDs, credit card, digital camera, and 20 euro.
• On the same day, a would-be mugger attacked a 63-year-old man, but cops nabbed a suspect the next day.
The crook confronted the victim near the corner of Lorimer Street and Bedford Avenue at around 8 pm and said, in Polish, “Give me money.”
It was no joke, but the victim refused, and the crook punched him in the face, leaving the victim with a black eye.
The crook tried to pilfer the victim’s pockets, but the victim fled and alerted police, who arrested a 42-year-old suspect the next day.
Juiced!
A crooked employee squeezed $1,140 from a juice company.
The thief collected the cash on delivery routes between Sept. 2–11, but never turned it over to his employer — a popular purveyor of pomegranate juice.
Employees of juice company called police after scouring the warehouse, which is on Manhattan Avenue near the corner of Ash Street, for the cash.
Road rage!
An irate motorist attacked a traffic agent who was issuing him ticket on Sept. 11.
The deranged driver grabbed reach out the window and grabbed officer’s pad when she approached the car, which was parked on Manhattan Avenue near the corner of Calyer Street.
The motorist ripped the pad from the officer’s hand and threw it to the ground — spraining a ligament in the officer’s middle finger — and drove away at around 1:50 pm.
Photo-graft
A sinister shutterbug stole more than $2,200 of cameras and photography equipment from a Honda minivan that was parked on Meeker Street on Sept. 11.
The thief shattered the driver’s side window between 7:45 am and 5 pm — while the photographer was at work — and grabbed a high-end Canon camera, four lenses, two memory cards, and a video camera from the van, which was parked between Union Avenue and Lorimer Street.
Seventh hell
A would-be burglar tried to break into a North Seventh Street apartment just after midnight on Sept. 13, but all he turned out with was a pair of silver bracelets.
The crook climbed the fire escape of the building, which is between Bedford and Driggs avenues, and tried to pry open a second-floor window — but a resident of the apartment grabbed the perp and held him down until police arrived.
Sugar lows
Sinister sweet-tooths snatched $4,374 of high-end ice cream from a Haagen-Dazs truck overnight on Sept. 12.
The thieves clipped the lock on the side of the truck and heisted the desserts from a maintenance lot on Kingsland Avenue between Norman and Greenpoint avenues.
Heavy metal
Metal-craving crooks stole two bronze plaques from outside of a Humboldt Street church on Sept. 9.
The thieves lifted the bronzes from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church between midnight and 6 am.
The crooks escaped from the church, which is near the corner of Driggs Street, with the engravings, which contained parishioners’ names and are valued at $1,500.
