Area residents and NYPD honchos are putting their faith in Deputy Inspector Corey Pegues as the new commanding officer of the 67th Precinct in East Flatbush begins reaching out to religious and community groups.
“That’s one of the most rewarding parts of my position – watching some one come into a job with fire, enthusiasm and zeal,” said Chief Joseph Fox, the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, who welcomed Pegues to the 67th Precinct late last month. “[Pegues] truly wants to make the precinct better and the community safer.”
Pegues is replacing Inspector William Aubry, who was chosen to lead a Forensic Investigation Division in Queens.
The father of five comes to the Snyder Avenue stationhouse as the precinct celebrates a nine percent drop in felony crime.
Under Aubry’s control, the precinct saw an impressive reduction in shootings as well as an increase in gun arrests.
Fox said that Pegues “brings with him a wealth of experience and a spirit community participation to his new command.”
“He has served our country in the United States Army as a medical specialist and while in the NYPD, he has continued his career in the military with the New York State National Guard,” he said. “Deputy Inspector Pegues has served as the Executive Officer of the 75th Precinct and as the Commanding Officer of Housing Police Service Area 2.”
Pegues is also an adjunct professor in Criminal Justice at Monroe College and is a facilitator in the New York Tolerance Center for a course entitled “Building Community Bridges, in a Diverse Post 9/11”.
“We know that he will continue with the great success he has achieved at the helm of his former commands,” Fox said.
