Three new members were welcomed at Community Board 12, at the group’s June meeting.
The new board members are Jacob Daskal, David Greenfield and Marc Katz. They were appointed by City Councilmember Simcha Felder who praised them as “rabble rousers.
“I’m proud to say,” Felder told the group gathered at the Amico Senior Center, 59th Street and 13th Avenue, “that that’s what my teachers at the yeshiva called me, and look what happened.”
Active citizens, stressed Felder, are, “What the community board is all about, furthering the commitment to be involved in the issues the community faces. I am honored to be able to appoint people like these.”
The makeup of the board has altered since Felder won the City Council seat in 2001, he pointed out. “As my tenure in the City Council winds down, there has been a dramatic change in the board,” Felder opined.
Felder will be forced to vacate his council seat at the end of 2009 because of term limits. He has declared his candidacy for the New York State Senate in the 21st S.D., a seat currently held by State Senator Kevin Parker, who has been in the seat since it was created, in 2002, as a result of reapportionment.
Also running for that seat is Felder’s colleague, City Councilmember Kendall Stewart, who will also have to vacate his council seat because of term limits.
Greenfield, one of Felder’s three board appointees this spring, is running for Felder’s council seat. He was featured on the City Hall website back in January, as the top fund-raiser among first-time candidates for seats on the City Council. On his January filing with the Campaign Finance Board, Greenfield had reported that he had raised $170,619, according to www.cityhallnews.com, over $100,000 more than the number-two fund-raiser among first-time candidates.
