Iffath Hoskins, MD, Lutheran Medical Center’s chair of OBGYN, was elected to serve as vice president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). ACOG, a national medical organization representing more than 52,000 members who provide health care for women, announced the selection at their 56th Annual Clinical Meeting in New Orleans.
As a nationally known expert in her field, Hoskins is senior vice president, chair and residency director of the Department of OBGYN at Lutheran Medical Center, 150 55th Street. She has been an active ACOG fellow since 1987 and has a rich background in women’s health, the science of obstetrics, and developing comprehensive programs for underserved communities.
As an active member of ACOG, Dr. Hoskins most recently served as assistant secretary and a member of the committees on Obstetric Practice and Health Care for Underserved Women. She served as an ACOG delegate to the American Medical Association and as a liaison to the Society for Perinatal Obstetricians, the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Drugs, and the American College of Surgeons. She is past president of the New York State Perinatal Association.
Dr. Hoskins has 30 years of service in the US Navy (active duty and reserves), where she held numerous leadership positions and received a number of awards. She completed her medical degree at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and her residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. She subsequently completed a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, also in Bethesda.
