The Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture presents, as part of its “Sunday Platforms” series, “Spiritual Sustainability: Back to Nature, Back to Ethics with Martha Gallahue,” September 13. Platforms are held every Sunday morning, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the main hall of the Meeting House, 53 Prospect Park West in Park Slope.
“Spiritual sustainability” is a new way of thinking about environmentally sustainable living for those determined to live in ethical community. It asks that we restore our connection to nature through values that consider the earth, through personal mindfulness and through interdependence in everyday living.
Martha Gallahue, a BSEC member who is a clergy leader with the American Ethical Union’s National Service Conference based at the UN, will highlight those good practices already in place at BSEC and advocate for a more conscious pursuit of this tendency. She will describe positive outcomes when the community as a whole adoptsthe practice ofearth values manifesting in action.
