The race is on!
Tens of thousands of athletes will run through Brooklyn and four other boroughs for the New York City Marathon on Sunday Nov. 3.
More than 50,000 runners hailing from around the jog over the Verrazzano Bridge and make their way through Brooklyn on their way to Queens and the Bronx, before hopefully crossing the finish line in Central Park on the distant Isle of Manhattan.
The race kicks off at 8:30 am at the Staten Island side of the bridge and crosses over into Brooklyn, the longest stretch in the race of any borough, running from the foot of the span north along Fourth Avenue and all the way up to Greenpoint and across the Pulaski Bridge to Queens.
To accommodate the race, the city is closing several bridges and streets throughout the day — a more detailed list of road closures can be found on the marathon’s website.
Organizers and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority advises Brooklynites travel by public transit during the race.
Subways will run on a Sunday schedule but the transit agency recommends using their trip planner before voyaging out.
Many buses will not operate as normal due to the road closures and commuters should check the agency’s service changes website for more information on individual lines.
