She’s a burlesque star and a Nigerian princess!
Princess Pat — a.k.a. musician and burlesque performer Patience Mukoro — will bear (almost) all in name of love and harmony in Sideshows by the Seashore’s second annual Valentine’s Day For Lovers and Losers party on Feb. 14 in Coney Island.
Mukoro, a Lagos native who was born into a royal family but left her homeland for the People’s Playground in the mid-1990s, said the Adam and Eve-themed bash featuring music, magic and dance was designed for longtime couples and lonely singles alike.
“If you’re lonely on Valentine’s Day you’re probably looking to meet someone,” said Mukoro, who’s married to Coney Island’s unofficial mayor Dick Zigun, the man behind Sideshows by the Seashore. “Maybe people will find their life partner at the party. You never know.”
In a surprise twist at least year’s show, Mukoro called Zigun on stage to exchange Valentine’s Day gifts. The burlesque star said she was so pleased with her presents — perfume and chocolate — that the stunt might become a regular part of her act.
And they won’t be the only ones getting showered with gifts: the party’s best-dressed guests will win take-home sex toys.
“But there’s going to be a lot of competition,” Mukoro said.
