No re-Morsi for Egypt’s ousted president

Hear that roar? That’s the free world applauding the fall of a tyrant, who called Jews “the descendants of apes and pigs,” who bankrolled crudballs to rape women in public, and who demanded freedom for the blind cleric serving a life sentence in the U.S. for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Mohammed Morsi, the shariah-loving hardliner, who lied when he campaigned as a reformist, was removed kicking and screaming by his own military last week for consolidating his power, ignoring his nation’s economic rot, and pushing his increasingly Islamist agenda, after barely a year in office.

No surprise then that Morsi’s term was short-lived. The U.S.-trained engineer arrived with high hopes on the breeze of the Arab spring. But he soon decayed on the tumultuous vine, bringing pain, strife, and disappointment for Egyptians, who erroneously thought they were entering a golden age of democracy by voting for the Muslim Brotherhood leader, in Egypt’s first free elections in 30 years.

They should have known better than to elect a misogynist-extremist with terror ties. But then Egyptians continue to be their own worst enemy, professing a desire for democracy, yet defaulting to the freedom-choking, theocratic ideals that shroud Muslim politics.

Then, there’s the issue of their tawdry morality. A 22-year-old Dutch female reporter was gang raped during recent protests in Tahrir Square, in a heinous attack that was eerily reminiscent of CBS reporter Lara Logan’s sexual battery by an Egyptian mob on the night Hosni Mubarek toppled.

Anti-American sentiment in Egypt is also a problematic, soaring eagle — even as the U.S. bolsters Egyptians with cash infusions and glowing accolades. President Obama lobbied Congress for more than $1 billion to help Egypt’s transition to democracy. But Obama proved that even a diehard Muslim apologist has his limits, when he withdrew an award for Egyptian activist Samira Ibrahim, following her rabid, anti-U.S and anti-Israel Twitter rants.

Ibrahim tweeted: “An explosion on a bus carrying Israelis in Burgas airport in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. Today is a very sweet day with a lot of very sweet news,” after Islamo-nuts killed five Jewish tourists and a bus driver during last July’s terror bombing in Bulgaria.

Ibrahim also exhorted, “Today is the anniversary of 9-11. May every year come with America burning,” when Muslim militants killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens, State Department employee Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Glen A. Doherty and Tyrone S. Woods in a Sept. 2012 terror raid on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

President Obama can take credit for the crisis in Egypt. His courtesies to the volcanic Muslim world have groomed the stage for iron-fisted despots like Mohammed Morsi, who degenerated human rights in his country during his short tenure, claims the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies.

Liberty-seeking Egyptians know better than most that Islamists, by definition, cannot be democrats. They also need to look no further than the American Revolution for a model on how to conquer oppressors, and establish a sound and just nation.

But first, they need to get their abysmal act together.
