Guns and goons
An unhinged man was arrested on E. 18th Street on May 30 after an off-duty cop thought the man had a gun.
The peace officer was nearing Beverly Road at 10:30 pm, thought he saw the man with a gun and called 911.
Cops from the 70th Precinct responded, but didn’t find a weapon. They did, however, arrest the suspect when he began fighting police off.
Burned in school
Three students at JHS 285 on Beverly Road were rushed to the hospital on May 27 after a fellow students accidentally dropped a container of sulfuric acid.
School administrators said that the students’ feet and lower legs were splashed by the caustic chemicals at 9:42 am. They were removed from the school, which is near Ralph Avenue, with minor burns.
A cut below
A beggar was arrested on May 23 for asking a New York Avenue gas station attendant for change one minute, then demanding change with a box cutter in his hand the next.
Cops said that the 23-year-old suspect approached the gas station, which is near Newkirk Avenue, at 7:30 am, demanding that patrons give him change.
The customers complained to a manager, but when the employee approached the beggar, he pulled a box cutter from his knapsack.
“I’ve got something for you,” he screamed.
The manager called police, who charged the 23-year-old with menacing and weapons possession.
A 33-year-old was arrested on May 21 after he attacked a Brooklyn College security guard.
The guard told police that he was on Bedford Avenue near Campus Road at 7:30 pm when the suspect punched him and wrestled him to the ground.
It was unclear what sparked the attack.
A thief broke into an E. 49th Street home near Flatlands Avenue on May 23 — ransacking the bedroom.
The break-in took place sometime after 10:30 am, the homeowner told police. It remained unclear if anything had been taken.
Side window entry
A thief broke into an apartment on E. 55th Street on May 26, taking a 37-year-old woman’s purse and an assortment of jewelry and electronics.
The woman told police that someone entered the apartment through a side window, which was not locked.
