Oh, baby! Gerber’s got nothing on Ted & Honey in Cobble Hill

Move over Gerber, Cobble Hill café Ted & Honey is making an appeal to the neighborhood stroller set.

A few months ago, the store started carrying homemade baby food after new dad and co-owner Chris “Ted” Jackson sampled store-bought baby food, only to discover just how gross it is.

“They were so watery and bland — some of them they came right back out,” said Jackson, “I only had to sample five or six different brands to know I was happy making my own.”

Ted & Honey makes four flavors, including an organic, nutrient-packed kale, yam, ricotta, chicken liver and chicken thigh variety for babies with especially sophisticated palettes.

“We wanted to concentrate as many nutrients into this simple puree. There’s no added salts or waters. They’re really a pretty hearty puree,” said Jackson, who makes the baby bites by steaming the ingredients, and then pureeing them.

The food comes frozen and Cryovac’d in four-ounce servings ($2 each or $6.50 for four). It also comes with serving ideas — such as using the puree as a sauce for pasta once your little angel graduates on up to solids.

“If you’re not willing to eat their food, then why should they?” said Jackson, “I don’t have to fake the ‘mmm’ and spit it out in a napkin.”

Soon, you’ll be able to grab a drink with your baby when the eatery introduces beer cocktails, flights of Sixpoint, wine and longer hours at the end of next month.

After all, babies and beer is a Brooklyn tradition.
