The Cyclones rallied from a 3–1 deficit but ebded up losing in 10 innings to the Renegades.
A wild Carlos Valdez took the loss giving up a run on no hits in the 10th thanks to Matt Dacey’s sacrifice fly walk-off
The southpaw hit Jake Cronenworth to start the inning. After a sac bunt moved Cronenworth to second, Valdez walked Joe McCarthy. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third.
An intentional walk was given to Cade Gotta to load the bases. With Brooklyn looking for a ground ball or a strikeout, Dacey was able to lift the ball and fly out to right, bringing home the winning run.
Chris Flexen got the start for the Cyclones but struggled, giving up consecutive run-scoring doubles in the second.
Brooklyn scratched a run in the fourth when Vinny Siena doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on an error by Hudson Valley pitcher Michael Velasquez.
Flexen ran into trouble in the fifth, giving up two singles with a hit batter mixed in.
Tom Gamboa called on Craig Missigman to get out of the jam. Hudson Valley scored a run on a sac fly and took a 3–1 lead.
The Cyclones answered back with a run in the sixth. After singles by Branden Kaupe and Vinny Siena, third baseman Matt Dacey misplayed Michael Bernal’s grounder into a run-scoring error.
After a David Thompson groundout, Jeff Diehl came to the plate with runners on second and third. Diehl grounded out to third to end the threat.
Brandon Koch entered the game in the eighth inning and received a rude greeting from the Cyclones who tied the game on a walk and two singles. Siena’s single scored Kaupe to even the game at three.
With runners on first and second and nobody out, Koch recovered to strike out Bernal and Thompson.
Diehl was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Brandon Brosher struck out to end the inning.
Corey Taylor pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the eighth but the Cyclines were retired in order in the ninth.
Johnny Magliozzi pitched a 1-2-3 inning to send the game to extra innings.
Brooklyn again went down in order as Hudson Valley reliever Justin McCalvin got through the top of the order. McCalvin was credited with the win when Hudson Valley scored in the bottom of the inning.
The Cyclones have dropped 11 of the last 15 games after starting the season 15–6.
The Cyclones return to Brooklyn tonight for a 7 pm start against Hudson Valley on Juan Lagares bobble-glove night.
