A thief didn’t need a high-powered laser to break into a 92nd Street medical complex — but he took one on the way out.
Someone gained entry to the building, which is between Battery Avenue and Parrott Place, through a broken window sometime before 11:30 am on Jan. 20.
The thief kicked open cabinets and threw medical supplies all over the place before stealing the high-tech computer equipment.
Police are examining surveillance camera footage.
Uncharitable
A 53-year-old Battery Avenue man who called a company that had advertised on the radio about picking up old cars for charity was duped when a man claiming to be representing the charity stole his Jeep Cherokee on Jan. 10.
Police say the tow truck driver gave the owner a reference number but no receipt. The man later called the towing company and was told they had no record of such a pick-up — and the Jeep has not been seen since.
Stab threat
A thug who claimed to have a knife mugged a man on 85th Street on Jan. 18.
The 17-year-old victim was walking near Third Avenue at around 8:30 am when the thug approached, demanded his cellphone, and told the victim that he would be stabbed if he didn’t comply. After the victim handed it over, the crook ran away.
Turn it off!
A 29-year-old man left his car running at the corner of 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue to make a quick stop at a store on Jan. 19 — but by the time he returned, someone else had stolen the gray Nissan.
Police say the theft occurred at 1:40 am and that the Maxima is worth $13,000.
Plumbing woes
Someone stole $6,000 in plumbing fixtures from a 79th Street apartment that was vacant while the owner was on vacation.
The 31-year-old resident had given a set of keys to several contractors working on the apartment, but when she returned on Jan. 16, she found she’d been robbed.
Police say there were no signs of forced entry at the house, which is between Narrows Avenue and Colonial Road. None of the contractors had been given permission to take the materials.
Pocket picked
A 68th Street woman returned to her home on Jan. 18 to find that someone had stolen her wallet.
By the time cancelled the credit cards at 5 pm that evening, at least four charges — totaling $296 — had been made on her cards. The thief also got $70.
