Two educators have joined the School District 20 team.
At a special meeting of the district’s Community Education Council (CEC), the assistant principals of two local schools were officially appointed to their administrative posts.
The appointments are standard procedure for any local administrator and are often attended by colleagues, friends and family ready to present celebratory flowers and balloons.
“I am very delighted to officially welcome our honoree Margaret Hamdan,” said Margaret Russo, principal of P.S. 160.
Hamdan was appointed as an assistant principal of P.S. 160, the William T. Sampson School, at 5105 Fort Hamilton Parkway in Borough Park.
Russo called Hamdan a “hard worker.”
“She deeply cares for the staff. She loves the students,” Russo said.
Hamdan thanked P.S. 160’s students and staffers “who welcomed me and made me feel at home on my first day. I’m so grateful to be part of this organization.”
Vernita Patterson was appointed as an assistant principal of I.S. 227, the Edward Shallow School, at 6500 16th Avenue in Bensonhurst.
Patterson, a former United Federation of Teachers (UFT) chapter chair, was praised for her ability to multitask when juggling various projects, including supervising the school’s standardized testing procedures.
Most importantly, she “always has a smile on her face.”
Patterson became emotional when accepting her appointment.
“I especially want to thank my family just for being my family. I love you very, very much,” she said.
“Thank you Shallow community for your support and please know that I appreciate your acceptance,” she said.
