Burglars tried to plunder two apartments in a Union Street building on April 17, but only managed to break into one of them.
An apartment on the second floor of the building between Smith and Hoyt streets was looted between midnight and 5:30 pm, according to the 25-year-old tenant, who said the culprits took her bicycle, laptop, some jewelry and watches.
A neighbor on the fourth floor was more fortunate. The would-be intruders were unable to circumvent his locked door, though it was damaged, as were his window screens. He was not home between 9 am and 10 pm.
Worth effort?
Thieves expecting to hit paydirt came up nearly empty after breaking into a restaurant on Columbia Street on April 13 or 14.
They cracked open the lock to the eatery, which is between Kane and Degraw streets, sometime after 10 pm on April 13, but inside, they could only find $30 stored in a box.
Stolen car
A car was stolen from President Street sometime after its owner parked it there at 3 pm on April 9.
The owner told police that when he returned to his 2007 Camry, which had been between Hicks and Henry streets, at 7:45 am on April 11, there were no signs of it.
