This weekend, the “L” is for lousy.
The L train will not be running at all — in either direction, people! — between the Myrtle-Wyckoff station and Manhattan.
The elimination of all L-train service starts at 12:01 am on Saturday, meaning you better catch that midnight train to Billlyburg on Friday night, because it will be the last one until normal service resumes at 5 am on Monday.
Service will be split into two shuttle loops:
•A bus will pick up passengers at the Lorimer Street and Bedford Avenue L-train stops and take them to the more exotic J-train station at Marcy Avenue on the Southside.
• A second shuttle bus will handle all L-train traffic east of Lorimer to and from Myrtle-Wyckoff.
To lessen this stunning inconvenience, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will continue running M-train service over the weekend.
It’s small comfort to Williamsburgers.
“No L train — in either direction? This is earth shattering,” said Kate Briquelet, a shocked resident who lives on S. Third Street.
Normal L service will continue between Myrtle-Wykcoff avenues and Rockaway Parkway. But who cares about that?
Brooklynites heading to Manhattan — though for what reason, we can’t possibly know — will have to use the M14 crosstown bus instead of the L.
The downright awful service that used to characterize the L train several years ago is a thing of the past, for the most part. But occasionally those booze-filled memories of late night trips on shuttle buses are resurrected, as they were last May.
According to New York City Transit, the L line is among the city’s busiest and fastest-growing subway tubes. The Lorimer Street station increased its ridership by 11.5 percent from 2008 to 2009, the biggest jump in the system.
But not this weekend.
