Prospect Park will be the stage for Human Landscape Dance’s “Rituals of the First Year” — an innovative dance performance that explores new parenthood — on Sunday.
The show was largely inspired by artistic director Malcolm Shute’s experiences with his eight-month-old daughter, but he hopes that the pieces will speak to a larger audience and help them to love Brooklyn even more.
“The goal of our work is not only to make people more interested in dance but to re-shape the way people see the places that they live,” Shute told GO Brooklyn. “By putting on the work in Prospect Park, we are trying to say that Prospect Park is a place for art.”
The four-piece program will close with Shute’s “Leaving Home” (featuring April Betty and Alexander Short, pictured), which is set to his award-winning musical score, composed of ambient city noises from New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
Human Landscape Dance presents “Rituals of the First Year” on July 27, at noon, at the Oriental Pavilion in Prospect Park (entrance at Lincoln Road and Ocean Avenue in Park Slope). Free. For information, visit www.hldance.org.
