Ouch! Cyclones lose to Yanks

Aug. 22 at MCU Park

The Baby Bombers lived up to their nickname, belting a home run and knocking 12 hits en route to dismantling the Cyclones on Thursday at MCU Park.

The Cyclones scored the team’s only run on the first pitch, which Jonathan Clark sent over the right-field wall, breaking an 0–24 streak that began on Aug. 10.

Cyclone killer Yeicok Calderon scored the first two Yankee runs in the second and fourth after doubling both times off the outfield wall and the hated rivals never looked back.

Eric Jagielo hit a leadoff home run in the seventh and a two-run triple in the ninth to put the game well out of reach for Brooklyn, who dropped down to .500 again after seemingly putting the mediocre mark behind them.

But the Clones did not commit an error and the pitchers allowed only four walks, leading manager Rich Donnelly to say his team got flat out beat by good hitting.

“They have pretty some of the best left handed hitters in the league,” he said. “They’ve got some firepower over there. When you get behind those guys, 2–0, 3–1 or whatever it is, they can do some damage.”

Aberdeen mercifully lost to Hudson Valley, keeping the Cyclones a game and a half behind the IronBirds for first place. The Clones travel to Vermont for a three-game set starting tonight at 7:05 pm.
