Our singer-newswriter ‘parks’ one!

Frank Hoier has done it again! Inspired by our “Meadows of Shame” coverage of the trash in Prospect Park this summer, the Bard of Bushwich penned a new tune, “Cleaning up the Park (Meadows of Shame),” for this week’s “Rhythm and News” feature.

“Cleaning Up The Park (Meadows of Shame)”

(inspired by Vince DiMiceli)

Monday mornin’ in Prospect Park

is a sorry sight to see

A weekend plum full of good fun

turn into a trash catastrophe.

I kick a can and curse ’em

as I pout and walk right by.

But cleaning up the park

is someone else’s job, not mine.

Beer cans, bottles, Styrofoam —

they threw at the trash can but missed.

I swear there were enough chicken bones

to make a big dog get sick.

That party should be found

and every single person fined.

But cleaning up the park

is someone else’s job, not mine.

I stepped right on a plastic bottle

fell onto my bum,

which landed on a watermelon

rotting in the sun.

And I cursed the Parks Department

for takin’ their sweet time

and not cleaning up the park —

that’s someone else’s job, not mine.

I went down to the courthouse

with my lawyer set to sue.

I blamed the park, it was their fault

And I expected to get my due.

And when I get the money, I’ll have a party

in the park and have a time!

But cleaning up the park

is someone else’s job not mine.

While everybody’s pointing fingers

it seems plain to see

if you pick up a little trash

and make sure ya don’t leave any

then pretty soon it’ll level out

and our parks will look just fine —

’cause I know keeping our parks clean

is everybody’s job and mine.
