Students at the PS 255 Out of School Time (OST) Program are learning the art of dance during their last few weeks of school.
Ballroom dancing was incorporated into the program eight weeks ago to teach second to fourth graders the ins and outs of swing dancing, cha-cha, salsa, merengue, and more.
“Dancing is a great way to keep active, stay fit, and learn to focus,” said John Benanti, dancing instructor. “These students are great and knowing how to dance is something to be proud of.”
According to Erica Gorsica, OST director, the students are excited to participate in the class and look forward to it every week. The class runs every Tuesday at 4 p.m.
“This is a unique class which not only teaches the students how to dance but also helps them learn about different cultures,” said Gorsica.
Millennium Development operates the OST Program five days a week at the school, 1866 East 17th Street. Students are provided with an array of activities, including homework help, arts & crafts, field trips, mural painting, sports, etc.
