Talk about turning over a new leaf!

Dozens of Ridgites descended on Shore Road and Owls Head parks to rake, pick up, and paint — all part of the citywide clean-up effort “It’s My Park Day.”

Young and old helped clear fallen leaves and improperly discarded trash out of the neighborhood’s two biggest green spaces, and touched up fences and benches.

Community Board 10’s Parks and Recreation committee led a special team inside the Narrows Botanical Garden, a rare-plants-and-animals oasis in the section of Shore Road Park between 69th and 72nd streets.

“They were really happy with the work that was done,” said committee chairwoman June Johnson.

Johnson credited her fellow committee member Shirley Chin with bringing out the youth group from Saint Anselm’s Church on 83rd Street — a group that included 70 kids, plus their parents.

“What’s great about the group Shirley brings is the kids come with their moms and dads, who help out a lot,” Johnson said.

The team also got a tour of the botanical garden’s one-of-a-kind turtle pond and famed chicken coop.

“It’s a really great spot they’ve got there,” said Johnson.
