Part of Lundy’s colorful history is sold

Brooklyn archivist and historian Brian Merlis has announced the sale of his 1930s mosaic crest, which stood next to the entrance of Lundy’s Sheephead Bay Restaurant from the time it opened in the now-landmarked building, until its late 1980s closure.

Merlis had purchased it from Ed Gil, son of the founder of Goya Foods Company, who acquired it from Villa Banfi Wine Company, after they had purchased the former Lundy Estate on Long Island’s Gold Coast. The price was not disclosed.
