A man police say robbed a livery cab driver in Mapelton on March 24 surrendered to authorities this week.
Investigators claim that the 44-year-old cab driver picked up robbery suspect Thomas Sancimino, a man with a lengthy arrest history, on Bay 28th Street near 86th Street in Bath Beach at 6:10 am. Sancimino was driven to 21st Avenue and 66th Street, where he allegedly drew a firearm and demanded the cabbie hand over his hard-earned fares.
Police said Sancimino took the money and ran off, but turned himself into authorities on March 27 after cops began a borough-wide search. He was arraigned on robbery charges on March 28, when a judge ordered him held on $20,000 bail.
A grand jury is currently weighing the evidence police have collected against Sancimino, who has been arrested five times since 2003 for a litany of misdemeanor crimes that include weapons possession, vandalism and marijuana possession. In each case, Sancimino pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, officials said. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor robbery charge after he and an accomplice were arrested for committing a mugging in 2006, according to a spokesman for Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes.
A call to Joseph Mure, Sacimino’s attorney, was not returned by Friday evening.
