Public School 217−The Col. David Marcus School will present “Peter Pan” at 6:30 p.m., June 6 in the school’s auditorium, 1100 Newkirk Avenue.
Pooling together an extraordinary array of homegrown talent, the play will be presented in cooperation with the Brooklyn Arts Council, which chooses a classic work of children’s literature to adapt into a script appropriate for the more than 100 PS 217 students in Kindergarten through Grade 5.
PS 217 is a low−income school serving a community in which more than 70% of its families do not speak English at home. However, a Federal Magnet grant transformed the Flatbush school into the International School of Arts and Letters, which provides 22 after−school classes offering arts enrichment to more than 400 children, and this year’s production of Peter Pan is that program’s centerpiece.
