Pets step up for blessings – Owners hope for divine help

Some of the “parishioners” had four legs and their howls, yelps and chirps could be heard from blocks away as the annual blessing of the animals got underway at St. Ephrem’s Church.

The courtyard of the house of worship at 929 Bay Ridge Parkway was transformed into an outdoor altar as Deacon Horne led the benediction in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Brooklyn pet owners brought along their cherished dogs, cats, birds and other furry loved ones for the hailed blessing.

St. Francis is the patron saint of animals.
